Eastham Village Preservation Association (EVPA)

Eastham Village Preservation Association (EVPA)  was formed 55 years to spearhead the campaign to rid Eastham village of petrol tankers, which drove through the village day and night. Part of the campaign was to protect this ancient village by making it a conservation area. That worked well; North Road was built and the petrol tankers had to use the new route to access the M53.

So What Exactly Does E.V.P.A. Do Now?

Quite a lot, actually! Here’s a snapshot of how we’re keeping Eastham thriving:

  • Planning & Trees: We keep a close eye on planning applications and tree work proposals in or near the Conservation Area, making sure the village’s charm is protected.
  • Saving Icons: That red phone box in the village centre? We saved it! Thanks to one of our members, it’s been restored and now serves as an iconic book exchange.
  • Speed Watch: We run a Speed Watch team to remind drivers to stick to the 20mph limit and keep our roads and pedestrians safe.
  • Friends of Torr Park: We lend a hand to The Friends of Torr Park (including cricket fans—see above!).
  • The Graveyard Team: We support the Graveyard Team in their efforts to maintain this peaceful space.
  • Village in Bloom: Those 29 superb hanging baskets you see each summer? That’s us—buying (we ask for donations), hanging, watering, and maintaining them.
  • Tulip Mania: We’ve planted 3,000 tulip bulbs
  • Victorian Pleasure Gardens: We are leading the charge to preserve what’s left of Eastham’s unique Victorian Pleasure Gardens including the bear pit, the fountains, the pier and the ticket office.
  • History Keepers: We curate and maintain Eastham’s History Archive, safeguarding our past for future generations.
  • Reopening an important public footpath: Campaigning to reopen the shoreline public footpath between Bromborough Pool and Eastham Pier, with hopes of extending it to the Boat Museum.
  • Litter Heroes: We’re looking to launch a litter-picking team to keep the village looking its best.

We could use an extra pair of hands (or even just moral support) – can you help?

Whether you’re an armchair member or ready to get stuck in, we’d love to have you on board. Subs are just £10 a year! Drop an email to EVPAmembership@outlook.comto join us or learn more.

Come on – Eastham needs you! 😊

If you’d like to help with any of projects mentioned above please contact them via Eastham Village Preservation Association EVPA Contacts Page
